BONOBOS: HAMEED ALI, @NGRSENATE AND THE UNIFORM IMBROGLIO.
If You Don’t Stand for Something, You’ll Fall for Anything.
We are in the season of complicated, intractable disputes and argumentations filled with obstinacy from both sides of the divide leading us to a situation of political kwashiorkor wherein National institutions are suffering from deficiency of ideas to resolve this imbroglio.
It does not have to be like this if as a Nation we avoid politicisation and personalization of every issue in the public domain to the level that it is looking like a fight for self-aggrandisement and preservation of imagined superiority when a simple solution devoid of grandstanding from both sides would have extricated this entanglement of intractableness or complicatedness as events unfold.
I am of the view that any demand or compulsion from any institution whatsoever that has no backing, foundation rooted in law or legal prescription of our Nation must not and cannot be imposed on any citizen of Nigeria and no citizen should obey such illegal order or demand.
However, if there is ambiguity in the law let the judiciary gives us a proper interpretation of the law because ambiguity in any provision will generate corruption and abuse leading to dictatorial tendencies cum injustice and with the intractable disputes and argumentations fom both sides we are creating a fertile atmosphere for confusion, sentimentalism and moralization which are presentations reflecting the state of affairs presently.
I am not totally against argument for convention or the so called ''Normal Practice'' but that can only apply in my view if Hameed Ali is enlisted into the Customs Service either as a commissioned or non-commissioned Officer and promoted to the level of Comptroller General of Customs then he has to wear the uniform as convention demands being a career Officer. That is not the picture of things right now, Hameed Ali is not a career Officer of the Customs Service of Nigeria.
Really my advice to @Mbuhari is to redesignate the title of Hameed Ali to be Sole Administrator of Customs that will put an end to the intractableness we are witnessing on this issue and if they @NGRSENATE continue to be intransigent then they are in for a long war of attrition that will be foolhardy. My advice to the lawmakers @NGRSENATE please do not concern yourself with the smallest things look at the big picture.
People can say whatever they like Hameed Ali is the only person who will eventually make the decision to wear or not to wear uniform.
