KLEPTOMANIA: AN INCONCLUSIVE CONTEMPLATION ON NELLIE MAYSHAK SYNDROME.
NELLIE MAYSHAK represents everything that is bad about Nigeria and its public officialdom infestation(ed) with kleptomania(c) which is a behavioural abnormality that is classified as an impulse-control disorder, they lack every sense of moral behaviour or ethical life expected in sane clime.
I am not at all flabbergasted when I read in the news that our Nigerian-Canadian NELLIE MAYSHAK is/was being investigated in connection with Pension fraud running into billions of naira, this is so because looking at her lifestyle as a public official she represents something out of Harry Porter movie or an imaginary Nigerian Cindarella but with an O.J. Simpson negative twist to her narrative.
''Aguntan ti o ba baja rin a je igbe''. ''Tewe ba pe lara ose yio di ose'' says Yoruba aphorism; these might not necessarily be the truth in all circumstances however with an individual or group with opportunistic propensity or predisposition to go with the flow the danger is immediate and real.
If such individual or group domiciles in an environment dominated by/with corruption, profligacy, promiscuousness and impunity then the genetically programmed impulse control disorder with it comorbid psychiatric panorama and complexity go into over-drive creating an uncontrollable urge to participate in what ordinarily to a right thinking person is a morally dishonourably and abhorrent behaviour.
This is not a treatise to defend kleptomania(c) rather what I am doing here is an attempt to locate the source of NELLIE MAYSHAK SYNDROME and its realism in the architecture of our insane society wherein materialism, exaggerated consumerism and deification of kleptocracy permeate every aspect of our ''Existential Nihilistic Nigeriana".
Going by what I read on NELLIE MAYSHAK ''That Nigerian-Canadian civil servant, Nellie Mayshak, spent years working for the government of Ontario. Not one accusation of stealing and corruption''.-Pius Adesanmi
How do we explain the unbridled looting of our commonwealth by NELLIE MAYSHAK and those we put in position of trust if we cannot find any other explanation apart from the common refrain than to posit that there is something in their neuropsychological make-up that is making them to behave in such disgraceful mannerism coupled with the fact that they found themselves in an equally insane society.
Public official(s) with behavioural abnormality that lack every sense of moral behaviour or ethical life expected in sane clime cocooning in an environment of trust in an insane society where deification of kleptocracy permeate every aspect of our life is asking for meaninglessness.
