HUMAN DIGNITY: BIGMANISM, DAMBAZAU AND THE CONDESCENDING OBSEQUIOUSNESS.
ALaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi adeyemi and Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau; might not occupy the same hierachy/position within the sphere of hegemony in Nigeria.
Political Hegemony /Traditional Hegemony.
The first persona is a Traditional ruler with a chequered history of violence and institutionalization of criminality in his domain. Lamidi's father, the Alaafin of Oyo Oba Adeyemi II Adeniran; was deposed and exiled in 1954.
He ALaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi adeyemi is treading on deposition.
How do we explain the fact that a Traditional ruler who should be an embodiment of the culture of its people, an ambassador of the goals of the nation: goes around inciting violence, murder, chaos, within its own community, dehumanizing and subjugating his own people to pain and anguish.
Our second persona is the Babariga wearing Minister, who was a Military commander in his previous professional endeavour. A cultured man by all standard, yet exhibited what I call a Neanderthal mentality at an event recently.
How do we explain the dehumanizing, degrading behavior exhibited by the Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, during an event of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Academy in Abuja where an officer of Nigeria’s secret police, the State Security Service, was asked to clean his shoes in public.
What they both have in common is the propensity to use their leadership position to traumatise and destroy the self esteem of their subordinates, coupled with a factual disposition to dehumanise.
Here are the tweets in respect of the subject matter:
youtu.be/IMiMcQ9vE7A I saw video of Dambazau at an NSCDC event & I was furious, disappointed that a cultured man like that stoop so low.
@pearl2prince He behaved like feudal lord with a ''coterie of slaves''. This slavish mentality must stop forthwith U are not in the Military.
@pearl2prince Where you have dongaris polishing your shoes and cleaning your pants. This is a democratic dispensation please adjust quickly.
I wonder whether we are living in a feudalistic slavish commune or are we conscious enough to declare that we have established an egalitarian, just and truly democratic Nigeria?
I don't think so in my opinion, given the behaviors of both individuals mentioned above.
Note they are not alone in this powershow or authority speaking dehumanizing mechanism/mannerism, it is a common denominator amongst Nigeria ''BIGMAN'', Al-Makuri, Bishop Oyedepo, et al.
Please, pardon me for using the word ''BIGMAN'' but I have to, since its usage has a common interpretation in our local vernacular that marks Nigeria and the locality as a distinctive entity where being in a position higher as a public servant, by implication meant people under you are animals without dignity.
Our ''BIGMAN'' needs a character that shows servile and complaisance demeanour in order to boost his/their character flaws, impotent humaneness. This he can find readily available in our clime because of the impoverishment, low self esteem and OBSEQUIOUSNESS of our people carried over as a reminant of the bondage mentality of colonialism.
lest I forget, I heard Mike Okiro Stop/Warns Police Officers and Policemen on domestic errands to stop forthwith.
“You will all agree with me that this issue of policemen carrying handbags and umbrellas for VIPs has generated much uproar and even condemnation as it is capable of eroding the esteem of members of the NPF”-Mike Okiro, Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Let us hope that this directive shall be pursued to its logical conclusion.
