#LEKKIMASSACRE: NIGERIAN POLITICIANS CHANGE YOUR WAYS, THERE IS ANGER IN THE LAND.
"Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a president and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country"-Franklin D. Roosevelt.
If you want to persuade, influence or achieve some kind of understanding via your communication WITH THE YOUTHS OF NIGERIA either verbal, non verbal or written you need the understanding that it must be a see-saw symbiotic processes. There are various mechanisms and multiplicity of styles one can adopt concerning effective communication and achieving the desired goals especially when citizens and government are interacting on social, legal and constitutional issues germane to the welfare of the citizens given the social contract ab-initio.
Confrontational style of communication has become commonplace with this administration that one wonders who really is the boss under a democratic dispensation. The writers of the president's speeches read to the populace are damaging further his almost nonexistent relationship with the citizens by re-enforcing the nonchalance, alooftness, charachteristics of their superior instead of repackaging him through their speeches written for the president.
This is very obvious with the bland, insipid speech he read to the nation recently lacking the necessary instrumentarium for tailoring ones communication to achieve substantial situational expectation. A speech that was meant to build trust was written without reflecting empathy or sympathy for the victims of the massacre #ENDSARS.
No government in the history of mankind have defeated the citizens aspirations to be governed humanely. Dictators who went on killing spree motivated by barbaric idea that by instilling fear in the populace was a good mechanism for maintaining hegemony often ended up incuring the wrath of the citizens even after leaving power. I am calling on the Nigerian politicians to change their ways. However, I am not that optimistic that they would heed the call to desist from corrupt practices embedded with arrogance because a paradigm has been established that has now metamorphose into revolt.
Our experiences have shown that when the dust is cleared they surely shall continue from tomorrow. They will use our taxes to fester the nest of Godfathers because they have not learned anything from this uprising as a result of the fact that corruption is the mainstay of our politicians economy. I predict another uprising and it's going to be devastating if those in authority neglect to do the needful. "Agbo to tadi seyin agbara lolo muwa" Politicians in Nigeria need to understand the above aphorism that this is a prelude, a wake up call to redirect governance to reflect citizens aspirations.
Let me remind our politicians that there is no victory here yet on the part of the government, it is a cease-fire agreement to allow for negotiations. Anyone claiming victoy must understand that such victory is pyrrhic given the fact that young Nigerians were murdered by government agents cold bloodedly.
I read also in the news that South West governors were claiming inflitration. I wonder from where? They claimed hoodlums were transported from an imaginary location to South West Nigeria. I beg this is preposterous, stop buckpassing, you created those hoodlums yourselves who are now terrorising the populace in your communities. No-one is against the South West development, it is a spurious claim by the governors to cover-up their culpability. They led South West sheepishly into a political cul de sac.
I am a Nigerian. I do not subscribe to conspiracy theory. I believe strongly in the unity of Nigeria but that unity must work for all. Politicians have been warned severally that Nigeria is going South, do something quickly about the doom but they refused even now they are like ostriches buckpassing. The conflagration and implosion could have been avoided if politicians, governing elites see wisdom in changing modus operandi.
There is hunger, frustration, impunity and hopelessness in the land yet some people are squandering the riches of the nation under the umbrella of legislative entitlements. I saw Ndume arguing aggressively in defence of payments to legislators on the television programme HARD COPY and I was speechless.
I read on the pages of newspapers that IGP gave an order for the withdrawal of police officer guarding private residences of political office holders and party warlords and I cried. Then we are wondering how, why hoodlums have a free reign in Lagos. The answer is self evident most police officers were guarding private residences and carrying bags for wives of public officials. It was later in the day when the situation became unbearable that IGP made a proclamation that those officer should be withdrawn from their messenger duties. Uncountable times we have had proclamations like that from previous IGP but nothing came out of it. Now you see insincerity, that is why I wrote early that what we have presently is a cease-fire agreement.
They have turned our police officers or law enforcement organisation established to work for us into a security guards for officialdom whilst Nigerians fear for their lives daily because of impunity and abdication or dereliction of duties on the part of those who are suppose to serve and protect us.
It is disturbing to see unbridled ostentatious, luxury lifestyle of our politicians most especially the governors and legislators, avarice has usurped the reasoning ability of governors they have turned state funds into familial entitlements. Nigerians are watching with keen attention. Where is the security funds? Security funds without security. I beg... And you say Hoodlum, Miscreants were controlling the streets and neighbourhood, who created these people that we used derogatory adjective to "nomenclaturised" they are Nigerians with equal right constitutionally protected but because of bad governance they have decided to adopt anti social behaviour as a legitimate lifestyle. Now they are hunting us down after politicians have encouraged, supported them to do their devilish actions. The Gini is out of the boxes. How can we put Gini back into the boxes in a society that glorifies failure above legitimate success.
YOU CREATED THEM, PERIOD! A nation with unemployment epidemic. Are we stupid? No.
Presidency is also playing smart 75billion that is not accessible, 774,000 public works hijacked by influence peddlers, Godfatheristic families and legislators. What is left for ordinary citizens without influence. Are we living in the same Nigeria. Change your ways to avoid impending doom. It's looks like a tea party now, remember the next one will be catastrophic. No country survive two civil wars, stop the fragmentation occasioned by impunity, recklessness and bad governance.
It is difficult to step in the same flowing water everytime because of the continuous motion. that is why Nigerians need sincerity in all ramifications on the part of government, remember trust is the bedrock of any social contract and it is missing at this moment at every level of government.
Nigerian politicians need to build bridges of trust and a memorandum of understanding that would engender symbiotic relationship between them and the citizenry. It is doable but you must be sincere and change your ways. Nigerians are living in poverty amidst wealth.
Please change your ways so that we can have an egalitarian society. Mr. President, the protesters are not out to change your regime. You came to power under the umbrella of change but the change has become a mirage. I don't know how to explain what happened along this trajectory.
The protesters are seeking a better future for Nigeria. It is their future and they have the right to demand from you good governance. Acceptance of their demands is not a sign of weakness rather the weakness here is the use of killer squad to truncate peaceful protest.
We are waiting for the investigation, report, inquiry into this heinous crime against humanity committed by our soldiers. I hope openness, sincerity and transparency shall be the building blocks as we move forward.
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
